Comet Hyakutake - 1996

Comet Hyakutake - 1996

Comet Hyakutake. Image taken in the Arizona desert with Canon A-1 equipped with 50mm f/1.8 lens on TMAX1000 B&W film. I don't remember the aperture or shutter speed. I developed the film and made prints in a darkroom that I had access to in graduate school. The irregularly shaped stars are not due to trailing, but to comatic aberration in the lens.

Comet Hale-Bopp over Sonoran Desert

Comet Hale-Bopp over Sonoran Desert

Comet Hale-Bopp just before sunrise over the Sonoran Desert outside of Phoenix, AZ.

This shot was taken with a Canon A-1 with a 50mm f/1.8 lens on TMAX1000 B&W film in the spring of 1997. I don't remember the shutter speed or aperture. I processed the film and made the subsequent print in a darkroom that I had access to in graduate school. I remember I was in the desert all night shooting pics and there was a pack of coyotes with pups circling me and my dog at a distance for several hours yipping and howling. I never saw them. My dog wasn't bothered at all.

Canon Rebel G with 18-55mm kit lens and Kodak ISO800 film

I took this picture while on one of my annual spring camping trips with my friend Paul (he is sitting by the camp fire). I knew how I wanted the shot to turn out, but I didn't know how bright the sky or fire would be at any given exposure. We started shortly after sunset with a large fire and took a series of exposures ranging from one-half second up to 30 seconds. We waited for the fire to burn down and the sky to darken and did the series again, and then repeated the same process again one more time. This is the second to last shot of the night. The sky was pretty much black to the eye and the fire was very small. This is a 15 second exposure.

Comet Lovejoy in January, 2015 . This is just a single exposure as I didn't know anything about exposure stacking then.
